A Clinical Exercise Physiologist also referred to as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a healthcare professional who is trained in the management of chronic diseases and comorbidities where exercise training has been shown to be of therapeutic benefit. These conditions include, but are not limited to cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, oncologic, cardiac, neurologic and musculoskeletal. We utilizes scientific rationale to perform clinical exercise testing, exercise prescription, physical activity counseling, exercise supervision, and health education/promotion to assist in the recovery from illness and prevent or manage chronic disease. We also help to provide continuity of care, particularly post rehabilitation, where patients continue to benefit from exercise guidance. The practice and supervision of the AEP is guided by published professional guidelines, standards, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
